Capnea Solution is a stimulant. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances (adenosine and phosphodiesterase) leading to stimulation of the brain and respiratory system in premature newborns. This reduces the number of episodes of interrupted breathing and helps the newborns breathe on their own.

This medication stimulates the brain; hence it is used as a central nervous stimulant. It is used along with Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) andor ergotamine for migraine (severe headaches with nausea). It is also used for a breathing condition (apnea) in premature infants.
